The amount of the total freight handled, in the Port of Hitachinaka in 2001 became 994,000 tons (306.5% increase compared with the previous year) because of the increase of both domestic and foreign trades amount. The main products of the trades are industrial machineries (especially construction machineries) and completed cars for exporting and nonferrous metals (especially aluminum metals) and metal products (especially construction materials) for importing.
Moreover, the amount of the container freight handled became 53,000 tons (301.6% increase compared with the previous year.).
